Big Buddha Temple

Situated on a small island just offshore from the Northeastern area of Koh Samui, you will find Wat Phra Yai, known in English as the Big Buddha Temple. It's home to a giant, 12-metre-high gold-painted Buddha statue. Since it was built in 1972, it has become one of Koh Samui's most popular landmarks.

Enriched in history and culture, this dazzling Buddha represents a state of enlightenment, purity and calm.
If you arrive early enough, you'll witness the pleasant sight of local monks chanting their morning prayers. You can also browse the nearby stalls during your visit, selling local street food, fruit, flowers and fun souvenirs.

As with all Thai temples and places of worship, modest clothing must be worn. Shoulders and knees should be covered.
